 Le Donk project update
« Thread Started on Jul 25, 2007, 8:49am »

"Street Boys and girls!"...Filming begins today on the Le Donk comedy project.
Exact details of this are still a bit sketchy as the project is unscripted, unfunded and has a very small cast and crew.
Shane Meadows has elaborated on this in a recent post on his forum a www.shanemeadows.co.uk in a post titled '8 YEARS AFTER THE PILOT 'LE DONK' IS FINALLY MADE!'

Quote:
I have kept this a little closer to my chest than usual as every time I announce something, It tends to collapse in a great big heap of unfundable poop. I have, for the last month or so, been in discussions with Paddy (Considine) and Mark Herbert about trying to ressurect the charactor of Le Donk in some format and allow ourselves to have some proper fun before we begin writing 'King of the Gypsies' in the Winter.

A couple of months back I was asked to get involved with shooting a film with the Artic Monkeys at their Old Trafford concert (Happening over the last weekend of July). I didn't really see myself making a concert film on a par with 'Woodstock', so declined, but after talking to Paddy about how gutted I was that we have never made anything with the charactor of "Donk' the penny dropped and I realised that we had a golden platform for 'Le Donk' staring us in the face.

So we decided to buy 'Le Donk' a bedford rascal camper van, get him signed up as an official 'Roady' and we are about to set off to Old Trafford on a 5 day adventure in search of a film. We have No script, No funding and a tiny crew, but we are all buzzing about it and think the whole thing could be shot edited and ready for showing way before crimble!

We know not whether it will be a Short, a Feature or the first episode of a series, but it'll be a great crack getting back in the saddle, and if Paddy's first rehearsals are anything to go by, It should be piss funny! Rock on!!!!

You can't even find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "Fuck you" right under your nose. Try it sometime.

Sounds like it's gonna be good... Whatever it ends up being, I hope I get to see it eventually! :)

I was lucky enough to meet Le Donk on Saturday at The Arctic Monkeys gig at Old Trafford cricket ground, Manchester. Nice chap, has great hair too. Anybody lucky enough to have been there on the Sunday would have got to see him perform a rap with appropriately named Nottingham MC 'Scorzayzee' to kick off the event. Anyone with a sharp eye would have spotted Andy 'Gadget' Ellis, Tommo Turgoose (from 'This is England') along with Shane Meadows and Producer Mark Herbert.

EXIST!

Indeed Le Donk did perform at the festival on Sunday with the legendary SCORZAYZEE on the mic. He enjoyed meeting Little Gareth, the kids from Living In England and Richard SHOWADDYWADDY, who was in Nathan Barley and Garth Marenghi. His Words not mine. Anyone who has photos or footage send 'em over please! To check out SCORZAYZEES work go onto YOUTUBE and type in his name. Click on GREAT BRITAIN. It's exceptional. I still don't know what Le Donk will end up being in terms of format, but I do know that he has f*ck all to do with Saxondale. That's an absolute f*cking fact. We've had this character since 1999 when we shot our first short with him.

Bit more from Shane on the forum at shanemeadows.co.uk

Quote:
Got back from Manchester yesterday after 5 days of complete madness/joy/booze/laughter/noise and none stop shooting. It was like Smalltime (also shot in a week with a micro budget) all over again but with a Bedford Bambi camper van, the Artic Monkeys and a Unknown rapper from Nottingham called 'Scorzaysee".

It really was an amazing few days and we shot about 40hrs of footage. We still have no idea quite what we have in the 'can' but after seeing 'Le Donk' and 'Scor-Zay-See' blag their way onto the stage and play in front of 30,000 people, I know we have a fantastic ending and if the rest of the material is as hilarious to watch, as it was to shoot then we may even have the makings of lo-fi feature!

Please check out the cracking tune by Scorzaysee on Youtube

I will post some sneak preveiws of their gig once I get the material from the Official Film Crew but if anyone who was there has any footage on their phones etc, please post it.

Seacrest out

I'm glad to hear the shoot went well. :) Sounds like it was a lot of fun, and that would be great if a feature comes out of it.

More from Shane on his site:

Quote:
"Just started watching rushes back. My highlight so far has to be Le Donk telling the Arctic Monkeys about the time he got off with a Hermaphrodite in their dressing room! It's crude, but man it's funny.
I've got a sneaky feeling there won't be any complaints if this one gets an 18!!!

I will leak some sneaky peeks through the main page, so keep em peeled me odes.

I am also thinking about having a screening at Broadway Cinema in Nottingham once we get a decent cut and may well open the door to some of the forum posse!"

I will endeavor to see that this offer of an invite to the screening is extended to this forums members (especially as we have cross forum members anyway!)

A quite exciting update on the progress of 'The Donk project' from Shane on the forum at www.shanemeadows.co.uk

LE DONK (FT SCOR-ZAY-ZEE) Update:

Donk is moving along nicely. We need an afternoon to pick up a couple of scenes, but it should be done before XMAS and I plan to leak a few snippets in the coming months. We are planning to Grade and mix it all in Final Cut Pro, so there shouldn't be too many holdups.
Still not sure what form of release we will pursue but it looks set to be feature length, which is a nice bonus and should open up a lot of possibilities in terms of festivals etc. My hope would be to tour the UK with it in a small number of independent cinemas and release it on DVD thru warp with Both pilots and loads of bonus scenes etc.

Excellent! Good luck to Shane & company in finishing the project. :)

A bit more from Shane on Le Donk's Progress...

Quote:

'Le Donk' is coming along nicely and should be wrapped up january (editing) and should see it completed in Feb as we are aiming to do most of the post production in Final Cut pro.

Rayt, I'm off to me dungeon (sponsored by Vesta beef curry) to start editing my 587 films for Christmas. I may be some time.

Shandy.
